Girl Scouts enhance Pea Ridge park, trail
“The girls worked hard to come up with an idea for something that would truly help our community.”

PEA RIDGE — Girl Scout Troop 5167 is working to earn the Bronze Award, according to leader Stephanie Henson.
“This award is the highest honor a Junior Scout can achieve, and it is earned by making a difference in their community,” Henson said.
“The girls worked hard to come up with an idea for something that would truly help our community. The girls came up with many ideas to make new things for children to play with at the park. Then they had to raise money for this project with fall product (nuts and candy) and cookie sales,” she said.
The next step was making signs and coming up with a plan to present the idea to the Parks Commission to see if the scouts could complete the project.
“The girls did a great job, despite being a little nervous, and the Parks Commission accepted their proposal,” Henson said.
“As a troop we have been planning on doing this since winter and it was supposed to be completed in the early Spring. Due to covid, this was delayed and we had to follow the new guidelines with social distancing and many other requirements but once we were allowed to do so, it was full steam ahead!”
On a Saturday in August, the troop finally completed the project at the park.
The girls worked hard to create a music wall with instruments to play, a gaga ball court and put six inspirational quotes along the walking path.
“This award is an honor to receive, and the girls truly found a way to help their community!” Henson said. “Since they have successfully earned the award now, we are planning a ceremony to honor them at the park of course.”
