SPRINGDALE — Carol Ellen Giffin Mayhugh,
77, of Springdale, Ark., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2020, at the Apple Creek Health and Rehab in Centerton. Carol was born April 15, 1943, in Iola, Kan., a daughter of John Giffin and Rachel Brown Giffin.
She was the widow of the late Robert Hershel Mayhugh, whom she married June 25, 1965. Carol was a registered nurse and house supervisor at the Washington Regional Hospital for 35 years. Carol attended Sunday school at Cross Church and was known for her unique wit, her calming administration and her attention to detail.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Robert, sister Betty Straight, brothers Kenneth Giffin, Dean Giffin and Clinton Giffin.
She is survived by daughter Rebecca and husband Mike Stewart of Bentonville; son Robert Wayne Mayhugh of Springdale; sister Sonja Breeden of Springdale; grandchildren Jessika Buehne, Blake Buehne and Camren Buehne; and her beloved dog, Skippy.
Visitation will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale on Thursday, Sept. 17, 2020, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Chapel on Friday, Sept. 18, 2020, at 2 p.m. Burial will be at the Bluff Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale. Due to concerns of the covid pandemic and according to Arkansas State regulations, attendance will be limited to 125 people and all will be required to wear masks.
