■ Feach Moyle, the manager of the Kakadu National Park in Australia, said a humpback whale “appeared to be in good condition and not suffering any ill effects” after it managed to navigate its way back to sea weeks after getting lost in a murky, crocodile-infested river in the park.

■ Abby McAllister, a wildlife education and outreach specialist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, said a larger-than-normal number of young bears and a dwindling natural food supply are resulting in unusually frequent garbage raids in Juneau.

■ Rod Mauldin, a police spokesman in Birmingham, Ala., said an officer responding to a call regarding burglarize­d vehicles in an apartment complex parking lot was hospitaliz­ed after being struck by a silver SUV believed to have had several suspects inside.

■ Enoch Phillips, 18, and Cody Armistead, 17, two teens who escaped from a behavioral health facility in St. James, Mo., were charged with first-degree murder in the death of a 15-year-old who escaped the facility with them, according to court documents.

■ Jose Soriano, 59, of Cleveland, Texas, is wanted by the Liberty County sheriff’s office after deputies responding to a 911 call found the body of a woman inside a burning vehicle outside Soriano’s home and another woman chained inside the home, according to the sheriff’s office.

■ Cyril Taolo, acting director of the Department of Wildlife and National Parks in Botswana, said sudden deaths of some 330 elephants in the Seronga region may have occurred because they drank water contaminat­ed by toxic blue-green algae.

■ Ivry Hall, 20, an Alabama State University student from Chicago, was charged with murder in the shooting death of a 22-yearold classmate whose body was found a week after he failed to return to his campus dorm room, according to Montgomery police.

■ Joshuah Bradshaw, 30, of North Carolina was arrested on a warrant by the FBI in Etta, Miss., and was extradited to North Carolina where he is facing 332 charges in connection with sex-related crimes involving a minor, according to the Hoke County, N.C., sheriff.

■ Tom Butkovich, a police spokesman in Sugar Creek, Mo., said the agency does not suspect the body of a man recovered from the Missouri River in a park near the town is connected to a body that was found in the river last month in the same park.
