SPRINGDALE — Christine Edwards

-

Fine of Springdale, passed away Oct. 5, 2020. She was born Dec.10, 1932 in Durham, Ark., to Kirk and Dixie Edwards.

At an early age, Christine and her family moved to Spring dale where she spent the rest of her life. Many of her fondest memories while growing up in Springdale included working with her sisters behind the soda fountain at Oglesby’s Drugstore during their teenage years.

Christine was an outstanding basketball player for the Lady Bulldogs. One of her favorite stories was of a game in which she gave the other teams’ best player a black eye. In her later years, that competitiveness led to playing many games of H-O-R-S-E in the driveway with her sons. Another sport she enjoyed for many years was golfing with her friends at the Springdale Country Club.

Christine spent many years working in the retail business. She worked at numerous stores, including Dillards. Her love of clothes was only surpassed by her love of cooking. She especially enjoyed cooking for the holidays where you left her table needing a long nap. Another talent was her beautiful work in needlepointing. The quilts she made are treasured family heirlooms.

Her greatest joys in life were her two grandsons, Michael and Patrick Fine. Grandma Chris was there for every school and athletic event. There wasn’t a time when the boys didn’t jump at the chance to go see Grandma. Her backyard was full of entertaining activities and her passion for fishing was shared with her grandsons as well.

In recent years, Christine enjoyed reconnecting with old classmates and making new friends at the Springdale Senior Center. Once again, her competitive spirit led to playing bean bag baseball as well as competing in the Senior Olympics where she won seven Gold Medals.

Christine was preceded in death by husband Bill Fine; parents; brothers Billy Edwards and Fred Edwards; sisters Margie Edwards Dugan (Jesse) and Peggy Cecil (Sam).

She is survived by sons Randy ( Sherma) Fine and Rick (Joyce) Fine; grandsons Michael and Patrick Fine; nieces Jessica Dugan Earley (Terry), Debbie Cecil Strong (Jerry) and Donna Cecil; great nephew and niece Christopher and Heather Hodges; and great-great niece and nephew Alex Ochoa and Jordan Johnson.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 9, at Fairview memorial Gardens Cemetery in Fayetteville with Pastor Barry Smith officiating. All are invited to attend, with current social distancing guidelines and masks requested for all. Online condolences may be left at www.siscofuneral.com .
