Wildcats unleash power run game

-

When the Wildcats have posted their best seasons historically, it’s usually been because of a punishing ground game. It appears Har-Ber is building that once again.

In a 35-14 win against Springdale last week, the Wildcats (2-4, 2-1 7A-West) rushed for 320 yards. Sophomore Hudson

Brewer, who leads the team in rushing with 553 yards and 8 touchdowns, rushed for a career-high 160 and scored 4 touchdowns. Junior quarterback Drue McClendon rushed for 90 yards and junior back Lane Reiter added 59 as the Wildcats dominated on the ground.

With back-to-back wins after opening the season 0-4, Har-Ber can control its own destiny as far as playoff seedings are concerned, said coach Chris Wood.

“September was a tough month,” said Wood. “A lot of that had to do with who we were playing. All those teams are capable of winning state titles. I don’t know if anybody can say that about a nonconference schedule. And then Bentonville for the first conference game.

“I just told our guys it’s about winning games. It’s October. Nobody really remembers what you did in August and September, to be honest.

They always reflect on how the season ends, positive or negative.

So we just need to keep moving forward.”

The Wildcats face a huge test Friday night hosting Bentonville West at Wildcat Stadium.

“This is a big game,” said Wood. “This is a great opportunity for us to position ourselves and try to get a little bit higher in the pecking order for the playoffs because these seedings are going to be an unbelievable deal. It’s going to be wild and woolly anyway. So you need to win these conference games.”
