GRAVETTE — Students at Gravette Upper Elementary School are participating in their second annual Reverse Advent Calendar Food Drive.

The drive began Oct. 1 and students will be collecting food items throughout October.

Food items may be dropped off at the Upper Elementary School during school hours.

Foodstuffs donated will go to benefit the Outreach 58:10 Food Pantry in Sulphur Springs, which serves approximately 14o to 150 local families each month.

The pantry at 512 S. Black Ave. regularly serves local students and their families.

Items being collected for the remainder of the month and days for donation include: Oct. 9, canned tuna; Oct. 12, dessert mix; Oct. 13, applesauce; Oct. 14, cranberry sauce; Oct. 15; canned beans; Oct. 16, box of crackers; Oct. 19, package of rice; Oct. 20, oatmeal; Oct. 21, package of pasta; Oct. 22, spaghetti sauce; Oct. 23, chicken noodle soup; Oct. 26, tomato soup; Oct. 27, canned corn; Oct. 28, canned green beans; Oct. 29, canned sweet potatoes; Oct. 30, beef jerky.

Organizers of the drive say that one in four children in Northwest Arkansas is facing the physical, emotional, behavioral and academic challenges related to hunger on a daily basis. Every food donation, no matter how small or large, helps fight against hunger.

They ask that everyone in the area rally around Outreach 58:10 and help with this effort.
