FAYETTEVILLE — Hildegard “Hilde” Olson,

-

age 64, passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2020, at Willard Walker Hospice Home in Fayetteville. She was born Jan. 14, 1956, in a refugee camp in Stadl-Paura, Austria, to John and Maria (Schuster) Motz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother John Motz and sisters Gerda Williams and Renee Hicks.

She graduated from Yelm High School in Yelm, Wash., in 1974, and then attended Clover Park Vocational School in Lakewood, Wash. In 1974, she met her husband, Jan, while working in the library at the vocational school. Jan was teaching a course and had to check out projectors from the library. Hilde often joked projectors were not all he was checking out. Jan proposed on their second date and they were married six months later on Aug. 15, 1975. They were devoted to each other and to raising their two children.

Hilde was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springdale, Ark. She enjoyed volunteering weekly at the church clothes closet. In her younger years she enjoyed gardening and had the most beautiful rose bushes in the neighborhood. She loved her hummingbirds and kept them fat and happy. Hilde had a name for every bird that visited her feeders.

She worked at her children’s schools, was part of the PTA, and ran the snack bar at the ball fields. She loved to bowl and hosted many wild bunco parties for her lady friends. All were welcome in her home and she always had after school snacks ready for all the kids that may come by. She enjoyed her grandchildren immensely and they can attest to her competitiveness in monopoly. Hilde suffered for over 23 years with multiple sclerosis. She was a member of the MS Support Group of Rogers and enjoyed meeting with and sharing her experiences with others who have MS.

She is survived by her husband of over 45 years, Jan Olson; son Brian Olson; daughter Katrina Osborne and husband Lance; grandchildren Caleb, Kinley and Ashton; brother Walter Motz of Yelm, Wash.; and her fur baby, a poodle named Curly.

A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. with a funeral service to follow Friday, Nov. 20, 2020, in the chapel of Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville. A private family burial will be at Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.
