BELLA VISTA — A strong, quiet man with a wicked sense of humor and orneriness, Charles (Charley) Edmond Hill

of Bella Vista, Ark., passed on Dec. 11, 2020.

Charley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Florence ( Frost) Hill of the home. There are three children, Debbie Ray of Oklahoma City, Okla., Ken Hill and wife, Patty, of Sand Springs, Okla., and Mark Hill of Oklahoma City, Okla.; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

He was born in Kansas City, Kan., on Nov. 4, 1933, the son of Ralph and Hazel Hill. Charley graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1952, and Finley Engineering College with an Electrical Engineering Degree in 1954. Charles and Florence were married on July 14, 1954, in London Heights Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1955 to 1957.

He worked as either an Electrical Engineer or District Office Manager for Public Service Co of Oklahoma for over 39 years. He worked in the downtown Tulsa office before transferring to their Sand Springs office, where he worked as a Distribution Engineer before becoming the District Manager. He was transferred to the McAlester office as Manager before returning to the Tulsa office as a Distribution Engineer before retiring.

Charley and Florence moved to Bella Vista in 1995, following their respective retirements. Once in Bella Vista, he gave full rein to his golf passion. He had a holein-one on the Country Club course on Oct. 11, 2005. He loved cars, driving, football, woodworking, carving, camping, boating and fishing. He constructed the family’s first pop- up camper from a kit in the garage. Later, he built toy boxes, rocking chairs and rocking horses for the grandkids.

He was an active member of the Bella Vista Methodist Church, serving as an usher, golf league organizer, and wherever needed.

Charley was a Boy Scout at Kansas City Chelsea Baptist Church Troop 201. He later served as district commissioner on Tulsa’s Indian Nation Council. He was a past President of Sand Springs Rotary Club as well as a member of the McAlester, Okla., and Bentonville, Ark., Clubs. He was a Paul Harris Fellow recipient.

Charley was a contributor in numerous other civic organizations in his life. He was past President of Tulsa Management Club Board of Directors, Vice President of the National Management Association, past President of Sand Springs Chamber of Commerce and United Way, Vice President and Board of Directors of Tulsa Junior Achievement and McAlester Girls Club Board of Directors.

Charley was the Noble Grand of the Order of Odd Fellows (IOOF) in 1952 and a member of the Rebakah Lodge in Kansas City, Kan. He was also a member of the Sand Springs Masonic Lodge #475 and a 32nd Degree Consistory - Tulsa Cornerstone Class.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Dec. 15, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Bella Vista Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Dec. 16, at 1 pm., at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Bella Vista Cemetery.
