Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

Condescending piece

-

What a reprehensible and condescending column Dec. 13 by Rex Nelson, a senior editor at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. It uses almost half of the space of the editorial page, but is captioned as being “opinion.” It has also become quite obvious that he is one of several of the paper’s writers who are Trump-haters.

Being born in early 1931, I am also a “senior,” and a Korean veteran of four years’ service who has an opinion quite opposite to that of the elite Mr. Nelson, who apparently has been one of privilege his entire life as he has adequately conveyed in his writing. Perhaps he is better suited to write sports and travel articles than to be an ally of the Democrat-socialist left-wingers who condemn those of us who have an opposite opinion.

I was born a Roosevelt Democrat. I well remember those days of primitive living conditions experienced before most of rural America obtained electricity and indoor plumbing. We rural people of Arkansas weren’t concerned then about the socialist tendencies of Roosevelt. Hungry people will accept food and better living conditions over hunger and poverty. Along the way, I became an independent. The antics of Bill Clinton’s successful Vietnam draft-dodging and of Hillary’s acumen of quickly turning an investment of $10,000 into one of $100,000 were enough for me.

When Obama was elected president, I told everyone who would listen that it was his intention to destroy this country from within. How little did I know! The acceleration to this point has been unbelievable. Perhaps it is time to ask God to help those of us who are the uninformed deplorables to save our country, but who also happen to have common sense. WILLIAM S. TUCKER
