SPRINGDALE — Thomas Clarence Chastain,

91, of Springdale, Ark., went to meet his maker Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020. He was born in McKinney, Texas, on May 8, 1929, to Luther E and Ruby Lee Chastain.

He spent most of his life in some kind of service to the people. At a early age of 12, he was a member of the Civil Defense Corp in 1941, as a messenger between Look-Out Post on the California Coast. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1946, serving 24 years.

Upon retiring he became a letter carrier with the Postal Service, while going to college, graduating with a degree in political science. He became involved in law enforcemen­t in 1970 as city marshal and deputy sheriff in Utah, until retirement from the Washington County Sheriff Dept. in 2008, a span of 38 years.

In his spare time he was an avid hunter, fisherman, four wheel rider, and RV’er. He was a life member of the National Rifle Associatio­n, life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 2952 Springdale, Ark.) and life member of Military order of the Cootie (Beaver lake Post 6), and Springdale Masonic Lodge 316. Thomas was a member of 1st Assembly of God Church in Springdale. He enjoyed life and was always busy doing something.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Marie Chastain; son Thomas Clint Chastain; stepchildr­en Denise (Kelly) Rippee, Dennis Welch and Wanda Pittman (Brian); grandchild­ren Joe Wilson, Caitlin Chastain, Whitney Collins, Nick David, Richard Hogle and Hollie Crabtree; and several great-grandchild­ren; sister Goldianee (John) VanZant.

He was preceded in death by his parents and stepdaught­ers Donna Wilson and Donna Geabhart.

Visitation will be 9-10 before the service. Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020, at Westfield Chapel Funeral Home, 3236 W. Huntsville Ave. in Springdale, Ark. Interment at Floral Haven Veterans Field Cemetery, Broken Arrow, Okla. Memorials may be made to the Scholarshi­p fund, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2952, Box 6154, Springdale, Ark., 72766.
