FAYETTEVIL­LE — Roy Harold (Sonny) Hildebrand Jr.,

age 72, of Fayettevil­le passed away Friday, Jan. 8, 2021. He was born Sept. 4, 1948, in Kennett, Mo., to Roy and Lola Wilburn Hildebrand.

He was a member of Sequoyah United Methodist Church in Fayettevil­le. He was a sales account executive for the Northwest Arkansas Democrat Gazette until his retirement and had worked in media sales for the Northwest Arkansas area for over 30 years.

Sonny was a veteran of the United States Army Signal Corps, having been stationed in Europe and multiple locations in the US. He was also a long time supporter of the band programs at Ramay Junior High School and Fayettevil­le High School announcing for their half-time and competitio­n shows. Additional­ly, he was a long time supporter and announcer for the Northwest Arkansas Winds. An avid reader, Sonny was a fan of the works by John Grisham and John le Carré.

Sonny is survived by his wife, Shirley, of 50 years; one daughter, Stacey Chambers and her husband Dustin of Van Buren, Ark.; his son, Garrick Hildebrand of Dallas, Texas; two grandchild­ren, Ariana Chambers and Davis Chambers of Van Buren; as well as countless friends and loved ones.

Funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2021, at Moore’s Chapel in Fayettevil­le with burial to follow in the Fayettevil­le National Cemetery. Due to covid regulation­s, the service will be for family only, but will be livestream­ed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons, in Sonny’s name, may be made to Washington Regional Medical Center Foundation COVID Response Fund, P.O. Box 356, Fayettevil­le, Ark., 72702.
