PINE BLUFF — Mattie Lee Clark,

age 84, a former resident of Warren and Lake Village, died Dec. 31, 2020, at Trinity Village Nursing Home in Pine Bluff. Mattie was born Sept. 18, 1936, on the family farm at Big Creek in Cleveland County, Ark., the only daughter of Levi and Marry McClellan Brown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Leon, Lonnie, T.H. and Larkin Brown; twin brother Daniel Otto Clark; and two husbands.

Mattie, a graduate of Warren High School, married Claudia Jackson “Jack” Rice on June 9, 1954; to this marriage were sons Maylon T. Rice (Becky) of Fayettevil­le and Dr. Iry T. Rice (Carolyn) of White Hall. Widowed at 29, Mattie and the boys moved to Warren and she enrolled and graduated in November 1966 as a licensed practice nurse training from Pines Vo-Technical School in Pine Bluff.

She married Shelton Van Clark on Jan. 14, 1966, and had three additional children, Shellia Clark Kornegay (Dwayne) of Pine Bluff and twin sons, Shelton Van Clark Jr. (Rhea) of El Dorado and Daniel Otto Clark, who died a few hours after birth.

She was an LPN at the Bradley County Medical Center in Warren for 35 years and also worked at hospitals in McGehee and Lake Village. She and Shelton Clark enjoyed 52 years of marriage until his death in 2018. She has 13 grandchild­ren; seven great-grandchild­ren.

Graveside services were Saturday, Jan. 2, in Oakland Cemetery in Warren under the direction of Frazer Funeral Home of Warren. Memorials may be made to the Beyond Words Library Expansion Campaign at the Fayettevil­le Public Library, 401 W. Mountain, Fayettevil­le, Ark. 72701, or to the charity of one’s choice.
