PREP BASKETBALL 3A-1 REGIONAL At Bergman High School GIRLS BERGMAN 69, CHARLESTON 34

Maddi Holt hit six 3-pointers and scored 18 of her 24 points in the first quarter as Bergman opened the Class 3A Region 1 tournament on its home floor with a rout of Charleston.

Holt’s first quarter propelled the Lady Panthers (33-1) to a 27-16, which grew to a 48-19 margin by halftime. Bergman then outscored Charleston 17-0 in the third quarter and forced the running clock.

Holt was the only player in double figures for Bergman, which plays at 10 a.m. Friday against the winner of today’s game between Danville and Elkins. Gracie Koch led Charleston (10-10) with 11 while Brooke Groen added 10.

WEST FORK 47, COSSATOT RIVER 44

West Fork outscored Cossatot River 22-10 in the fourth quarter as the fourth-seeded Lady Tigers knocked off the 3A-4 Conference tournament champion at the Class 3A Region 1 tournament.

West Fork trailed 26-21 at halftime and only scored four points in the third quarter the Lady Tigers staged their rally.

Emma Newman led West Fork with 17 points while Lilly Hauser added 14. Kayla Richardson scored 15 to lead Cossatot River, followed by Kaylin McKee with 12.

BOYS BERGMAN 89, BOONEVILLE 69

Bergman outscored Booneville 25-5 in the second quarter and blew out the Bearcats during first-round action at the Class 3A Region 1 tournament in Bergman.

The outburst allowed the host Panthers (27-4) to turn a 23-14 lead into a 48-19 halftime cushion before Booneville closed the gap to 67-47 after three quarters.

Elijah Royce had 22 points, including a 10-of-14 outing from the free-throw line, as Bergman finished with five players in double figures. Anthony Hodge was next with 14 points — all in the first half — while Walker Patton added 12 points and Asher Fultz and Kaden Ponder chipped in 11 apiece.

Austin Hill led Booneville with 18 points, followed by Jacob Herrera with 16.

WALDRON 68, GREEN FOREST 41

Jaden Hutchens had seven 3-pointers and finished with 29 points to guide Waldron past Green Forest during the opening round of the Class 3A Region 1 Tournament at Bergman.

The Bulldogs outscored the Tigers 2412 in the second quarter and turned a tie score into a 35-23 halftime cushion. Waldron continued to pull away in the third quarter and enjoyed a 58-34 advantage.

Isaac Villareal added 15 points and Gavlen Wagner 13 for Waldron, which plays at 7 p.m. Friday against the winner of today’s game between Valley Springs and Cedarville. Dalton McDonald had 15 for Green Forest, while Adrien Serna added 13.

2A-4 REGIONAL At Magazine High School GIRLS ACORN 63, YELLVILLE SUMMIT 56

Three players scored in double-figures for Acorn in a first-round win Wednesday.

Madi Ellis led the way for Acord (25-3) with 14 points. Corryn Holland added 13 and Kaylee Tedder 10.

Acorn seized control of the game in the third quarter, outscoring Yellville Summit 23-12.

Abby Methvin scored a game-high 21 points for Yellville Summit and Kambree Gibson scored 16.

COTTER 68, MAGAZINE 38

Cotter routed the host Lady Rattlers, taking control in the first half and rolling to a first-round win.

Cotter (20-4) led 18-8 after one quarter and 36-17 at halftime.

Kaylee Crownover scored a game-high 26 points for Cotter and Kate Cheek finished with 11.

Kiara Vasquez led Magazine with 14 points.

BOYS MANSFIELD 53, COTTER 35

The Tigers played suffocatin­g defense and earned a first-round win Wednesday, punching their ticket to next week’s Class 2A state tournament. Mansfield grabbed an 18-8 lead after one quarter and dominated the fourth quarter to secure the win.

Codi Chick led the way for Mansfield with 15 points and Jonathon Bailey finished with 14.

Logan Principato led Cotter with 9 points.

1A-1 REGIONAL At Lead Hill High School GIRLS LEAD HILL 40, ST. PAUL 25

Lead Hill held St. Paul to just a free throw in the third quarter as the host team upended the 1A-1 West’s top-seeded team in the Class 1A Region 1 tournament.

The Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Saints 9-1 in the third quarter and turned an 18-12 halftime lead into a 27-13 cushion to start the fourth quarter.

Kelsey Rogers had 17 points and Lily Norman 14 for Lead Hill, the fourth seed from the 1A-East. Emily Burnett had 10 for St. Paul.

Lead Hill moves on to Friday’s 4 p.m. semifinal game between the winner of today’s game between Ozark Mountain and County Line.

KINGSTON 76, OZARK CATHOLIC 38

Kingston jumped out to a 21-8 lead in the first quarter and opened the Class 1A Region 1 Tournament with a win over Ozark Catholic.

Renee Pittman had 20 points and Hannah Johnson 10 for the Lady Yellowjack­ets, who led 41-18 at halftime and 61-26 after three quarters.

Becka Buron had 11 points for Ozark Catholic, which completed its inaugural season with the loss.

BOYS OZARK MOUNTAIN 63, NWA CLASSICAL 30

Zack Bolin had 23 points to lead Ozark Mountain to a first-round victory in the Class 1A Region 1 tournament at Lead Hill.

The Bears used a 21-3 run in the third quarter to pull away, stretching a 36-22 halftime into a 57-25 cushion.

Gage Freeman added 11 for Ozark Mountain, while Sandeep Dhillon had nine to lead Northwest Arkansas Classical.

THE NEW SCHOOL 61, KINGSTON 35

The Cougars led 19-6 after a quarter and cruised to the regional tournament win to punch their ticket to the Class 1A state tournament.

Sophomore Machael Hardimon led the way with 17 points for The New School (34-3), which led 49-29 after three quarters. Senior Holden Blankenshi­p added 13, while Evan Goldman and Quentus McNeal chipped in 10 each.

Chism Floyd led Kingston with 12 points, followed by Evan Goldman with 10.

RUSSELLVIL­LE 45, SILOAM SPRINGS 42

Grayson Sims hit a 3-pointer with 2.7 seconds left to lift the Cyclones to a win over the Panthers in the semifinals of the 5A-West Conference tournament semifinals on Tuesday night at Cyclone Arena.

The Panthers threw a pass the length of the floor, which Russellvil­le intercepte­d but immediatel­y turned it over with a traveling violation, giving Siloam Springs another chance with 1.6 seconds left.

Josh Stewart’s deep 3-pointer missed and the Cyclones held on for the win.

“Very proud of the boys tonight,” said Siloam Springs head coach Tim Stewart. “Dalton (Newman) goes out early with an elbow to the eye and then foul trouble everywhere. Boys just kept battling to the very end.”

Siloam Springs, the No. 4 seed, led 12-9 after the first quarter but Russellvil­le took a 24-23 lead at halftime. The Cyclones, the No. 1 seed, pulled ahead 39-30 going into the fourth quarter.

Trey Allen led Russellvil­le (19-6) with 21 points, while Sims had nine.

Josh Stewart and Jackson Ford each scored 14 points to lead Siloam Springs (12-13), while Nate Vachon had six, Breck Soderquist five and Carter Winesburg three.

Russellvil­le advances to Thursday’s championsh­ip game against No. 6 seed Mountain Home, which won at Vilonia on Tuesday. Siloam Springs plays at Vilonia on Thursday in the third-place game.
