■ Dr. Cam Patterson, cardiologist and health-care administrator, chancellor of University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences since 2018. Previously senior vice president and chief operating officer of New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center and Komansky Children’s Hospital, New York. Earlier positions include physician-in-chief at the University of North Carolina Center for Heart and Vascular Care, executive director of the UNC McAllister Heart Institute.

■ Dr. Jose Romero, pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases; secretary of the Arkansas Department of Health since August, succeeding Dr. Nate Smith. Previous positions include: chief medical officer at state Health Department, and director of Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at UAMS and Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Currently chairman of federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices, helping guide distribution of covid-19 vaccines. Medical degree: Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara, Mexico.
■ Dr. Gary Wheeler, pediatrician specializing in infectious diseases. Retired in December as senior medical adviser for Arkansas Department of Public Health. Previously Health Department’s chief medical officer, where oversight included communicable disease and immunization sections. Also formerly UAMS adjunct instructor for infectious diseases and professor at University of Arkansas Fay Boozman College of Public Health. Medical degree: Baylor College of Medicine. Masters of Public Service: Clinton School of Public Service. Master of Arts: University of Chicago. Bachelor of Arts: University of North Carolina.
