Arkansas falls to Tennessee

Despite winning the first set on Saturday, the University of Arkansas fell to Tennessee 31-33, 25-19, 25-21, 25-14 in the first of two matches in Knoxville, Tenn. The Razorbacks (10-3, 1-1 SEC) trailed 6-3 and 13-8 in the first set before taking advantage of two Volunteers errors and a kill from junior Jill Gillen to win the first set. Arkansas had an 8-2 lead in the second before Tennessee tied the set at 13-13 and took control of the match from there. Gillen posted 21 kills and 13 digs to lead the Razorbacks, while sophomore Taylor Head added 21 digs and 15 kills. The second match between the two teams begins at 11 a.m. Central today and will be televised on SEC Network.

UCA sweeps Kennesaw State

The University of Central Arkansas (3-8, 1-1 Atlantic Sun) won its first-ever Atlantic Sun Conference match Saturday, beating Kennesaw State 25-19, 25-21, 25-22 in Conway. Lexie Gregory led the Sugar Bears with 14 digs and Lexi Miller added seven kills. Alexis Stumbough chipped in with nine digs and seven kills. Lauren Chastang had a match-high 10 kills for Kennesaw State (7-6, 1-1) and Bri Becerra added 12 digs.

WBC loses on the road

Williams Baptist College was swept by Freed-Hardeman 2517, 25-10, 25-15 on Saturday in Henderson, Tenn. Molly Hanson and Morgan Feltrop led the Lady Eagles with six kills each, Elaine Blackmon had a team-high 17 digs and Sydney Burgin chipped in with 13 assists. Lyon loses conference opener Lyon College opened American Midwest Conference play Saturday with a 14-25, 27-25, 26-24, 26-24 loss to Central Baptist College in Batesville. Laney Blankenshi­p led Lyon with 21 assists and 11 digs. Erin Haigwood had 22 digs and 16 assists, while Paeton Tucker added 14 kills and 12 digs.
