- BY KAREN RICE

Craving the comfort of a homecooked meal? Nothing says “comfort food” like Golden Corral’s legendary breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. The only dilemma is where to start? Dessert-first? Traditional meat-starch-and-veggies? A trip to the salad bar? Or a plate of just sides?

Their mouthwatering all-you-caneat menu offers an amazing array of quality, made-from-scratch food freshly prepared throughout the day. With over 100 items to choose from, everyone is sure to find what they’re craving here. It’s the perfect spot for a family with picky eaters, or those following low carb, vegan, paleo, or plant-based diet plans.

“Our most popular dishes are our amazing pot roast and our Bourbon Street chicken accompanied by our awesome yeast rolls,” says General Manager Joe Dickson. “Our carrot cake is pretty great too.”

Joe knows what he’s talking about: his history with the Fort Smith Golden Corral goes back to the beginning.

“The Golden Corral here in Fort Smith has been here for 28 years. I was hired on from day one. I started off as a cook and have moved up through the years to become General Manager here.”

Originally from Van Buren, Joe has lived in the area his whole life and loves the people here, including his foodservice family. “I enjoy the day to day interaction with my co-workers, guests, managers, and even the delivery drivers that deliver groceries to us. What I like about working for our company is that they treat me like family. They give me ownership in my restaurant and allow me to try new things and be successful in my endeavors,” he continues. “My co-workers are my family away from my real family. I have always said that if one of us fails then we all fail, so I want them to be successful.”

The first Golden Corral restaurant opened in North Carolina in 1973. Nearly 50 years later, they have earned their place as America’s #1 buffet and grill. A willingness to change sets the restaurant apart from others, according to Joe. “We change with the times and develop new products and ideas,” he says. “We stand true to our brand and do not falter even in the face of trying and turbulent times like now.”

Golden Corral’s mission to make pleasurable dining affordable for all guests is one that Joe takes to heart.

“They can get a great meal at an affordable price and leave with a smile on their face. We go above and beyond for our guests.”

What keeps people coming back to this Fort Smith favorite?

“The number one reason people come to our restaurant is the great food, but along the way they find hospitable service and a family-like atmosphere that is unbeatable. We want our guests to feel at home and comfortable when they dine with us,” Joe explains. “We want them to have a good meal, laughter, and happiness. We want them to have great time so they will keep coming back to see us!”
