FAYETTEVIL­LE — Meredith Cook “Cookie” Brooks,

died March 21, 2022, in Fayettevil­le, Ark. She was born November 14, 1953, in El Dorado, Arkansas, to John Samuel Brooks and Josephine Cook Brooks. She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth Harwood “Betsy” Brooks of Memphis, Tennessee, and a brother, John S. Brooks, Jr., of Los Angeles, California, and many friends. Meredith graduated El Dorado High School in 1972 and was the Wildcat mascot and a member of the tennis team where she won many titles. She attended the University of Arkansas in Fayettevil­le and received her BS in Social Work and Masters in Education from South Arkansas University in Magnolia. She served as a social worker in El Dorado, Arkansas, and at the HIV clinic in Fayettevil­le, Arkansas. Meredith was a colorful, direct, interestin­g and generous personalit­y with much to say. She enjoyed adventures with friends to Florida, Alabama, Wyoming, and any Arkansas backroad they could find. She was an Elton John fan and attended concerts in Dallas, Tulsa, Memphis, and Las Vegas. She loved the Arkansas Razorbacks and her many days spent with friends on the Kings River collecting rocks, riding golf carts, side by sides and hours spent in front of the fire pit. She loved all dogs and all dogs loved Meredith but none loved her like Scootie Pie who she taught to bark, “Wy Wov Wou.”

A memorial gathering will be Sunday, May 1, 2022, at 2 p.m., at the small pavilion at Devils Den State Park. Memorials made be made in Merediths name to the Springdale Animal Shelter, 1549 E. Don Tyson Parkway, Springdale, AR., 72764, or any animal shelter or charity of your choice. Cremation was by Moore’s Chapel in Fayettevil­le.
