UA women set collegiate record

-

Earlier this week before the University of Arkansas women’s track and field team headed to Philadelphia for the Penn Relays, Razorbacks Coach Lance Harter made a prediction about the 6,000-meter relay. “That’s a collegiate record that’s primed to be broken,” Harter said. Harter was right, and it was his Razorbacks who did it. Arkansas’ team of sophomore Isabel Van Camp and seniors Logan Jolly, Lauren Gregory and Krissy Gear combined to win the 6,000-meter relay in the Championship of America race in 16 minutes and 53.87 seconds at Franklin Field to edge North Carolina State, which was second in 16:55.19.

The Razorbacks broke the previous collegiate record of 17:08.34 set by Tennessee at the 2009 Penn Relays.

The Arkansas men got an individual Penn Relays title when redshirt sophomore Phillip Lemonious won the 110 hurdles in 13.48 seconds.

Lemonious also anchored the Razorbacks’ 400 relay to a third-place finish in the Championship of America race in 39.90 behind Houston (39.48) and Auburn (39.53). Also running on the relay for Arkansas were senior Roman Harper, freshman Connor Washington and junior Tre’Bien Gilbert.

Arkansas’ 3,200 men’s relay team of sophomores Jadon Bartolomew and Leroy Russell, senior Kieran Taylor and junior Ricardo Banks took seventh in the Championship of America race in 7:26.53.

Washington also made the final in the 100 and took seventh in 10.41. Razorbacks sophomore Johnathan Baker was third in the men’s long jump with a best leap of 23 feet, 91/ inches. Junior Etamar Bhastekar cleared 16-9 1/2 to take fourth in the men’s pole vault.

Former Razorback NCAA and Olympic champion Omar McLeod took second in the Olympic development 110 hurdles in 13.22.

The University of Central Arkansas took fourth in the college men’s 1,600 relay at Penn with Jaiden Ventour, Tristan LaVan, Jordan Johnson and Shamal Sullivan running 3:10.68.

UCA’s Michaelangelo Bullard took fifth in the javelin with a throw of 202-6.
