FAYETTEVILLE — Jerry Taylor Brewer,

-

81, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away on May 1, 2022, at Butterfield Trail Village in the Special Care Center.

Jerry was born November 13, 1940, in Arlington, Texas, to Floyd and Ida Faye (Taylor) Brewer. Jerry graduated from Springdale High School in 1958 and later the University of Arkansas, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master’s degree in Education. He enjoyed successful coaching and teaching stints at Woodland Junior High, Fayetteville High School, and Baytown Lee High School in Texas before entering the banking profession as a loan officer with Harris County Federal Savings in Baytown, Texas. He rose quickly to Senior VP of Lending but then the entrepreneurial bug hit Jerry. He left the corporate world to start his own real estate and property development company. Alongside his wife, Kay, they built a successful real estate and property management company in Baytown.

In 1986, Jerry semi-retired and moved back home to northwest Arkansas, where in 1988 he and his oldest son, Clete, started Brewer Personnel Services ( later becoming StaffMark). At its peak, StaffMark grew to operate in 12 countries with over 200 offices throughout the globe.

Jerry’s second retirement came in 2000, and he was able to enjoy time with his family, friends and business colleagues for over 20 more years. Jerry was always able to coach people and teach them how to create a better life for themselves. He was a generous giver with he and his wife Kay donating to help create the Brewer Family Entrepreneurship Hub at the University of Arkansas. He was quoted in 2017 at the opening of the Hub with the following statement, “I hope this Entrepreneurship Hub removes boundaries for anyone on campus – no matter their background, GPA, or major – so they can achieve success in entrepreneurship.”

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Faye; his stepfather, Jim Bunnell; and his brothers, James and Truman.

Jerry was a beloved husband and best friend for 59 years with his wife, Kay, who he leaves behind, along with two sons and daughterin-law, Clete Brewer and his wife, Tammy Brewer, of Rogers, Ark.,and Chad Brewer of Naples, Fla. He also leaves behind his brothers, Jack, Paul; and his sister, Barbara and her husband, Don Boyd; and as his sister-in-law, Claudia. Jerry had an inner drive to compete and succeed and he loved his former players, employees, and team members that helped make him successful. Jerry was known by many as “Coach” even throughout his business career. Even the caregivers at Butterfield would affectionately call him “Coach”.

For the last 10 years he battled with Alzheimer’s and eventually Parkinson’s, and he now rests in peace.

A visitation will be held on Friday, May 6th at 12:302 p.m. at Nelson-Berna Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Ark. Burial service will be private. To sign the online guestbook, please visit www. bernafuneralhomes.com.
