FAYETTEVIL­LE — We are sad to announce that Nicholas Hugh Kumpe

passed away on May 2, 2022 after a long and heroic battle with cancer. Nick was born on September 25, 1959 to Chad Kumpe and Priscilla Kumpe.

He is survived by his wife, Stacey Fraser, and his son Chance. He is also survived by many friends and family including his parents, Priscilla Kumpe, Chad Kumpe and his wife Wendy Kumpe, brother Ron Kumpe and his wife Carmen Kumpe, his sister Chaddie Kumpe Platt and her husband Charlie Platt and his dear friend Bobby Watson. He will also be missed by his nephew Matthew Kumpe and his wife Michaela, his nephew Tristan Kumpe and his wife Renee, his niece Ronni Kumpe and his great nephew Ezra.

Nick was known by everyone to be a kind and gentle soul with a keen intellect and a thirst for knowledge. He was an accomplish­ed chef, honing his craft in California, New Orleans and Fayettevil­le, working for many years as the head chef at the Fayettevil­le Country Club and local eateries such at the 1936 Club. He was also a beloved team member in recent years at Dog Party USA, a local dog boarding facility owned and operated by his family.

There will be a memorial service for family and friends at Moore’s Chapel in downtown Fayettevil­le on Wednesday, May 11 from 4-6 p.m. This will be followed by a Celebratio­n of Life on June 9, at Prairie Street Live in Fayettevil­le from 5:30-8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, we would like to honor Nick’s intellectu­al curiosity with support for our local NPR affiliate, KUAF 91.3 FM or with support for cancer research.
