HIGH SCHOOL ROUNDUPS

-

FARMINGTON 41, PRAIRIE GROVE 40

The Cardinals survived a late rally by rival Prairie Grove to claim a one-point win Saturday in 5A-West action.

However, because Farmington’s win was by a single point, the Cardinals fell to the No. 4 seed from the conference for next week’s playoffs. Prairie Grove, which ended the season with two straight losses, maintains the No. 2 seed and will host Batesville next week in the first round. Farmington will be on the road to 5A-East champ Valley View.

The game was scheduled to be played on Friday, but severe weather across Northwest Arkansas forced game officials to reschedule it for Saturday morning.

The Cardinals (7-3, 5-2 5A-West) welcomed back junior quarterback Cameron Vanzant, who had been out with an injury since the third game of the season. Vanzant hit Peyton Funk on a 59-yard touchdown pass on the second play of the game and later connected with Hunter Reaves on a 60-yard scoring strike.

Prairie Grove (7-3, 5-2) trailed 34-12 and 41-18 in the game before storming back behind quarterback Camden Patterson, who connected with Matthew Velasco on a 75-yard touchdown, and hit Conner Hubbs on a pair of scoring strikes including a 15-yarder with 48 seconds left to pull the Tigers to within 41-40. The Tigers could not execute the two-point conversion after the Hubbs score and Farmington kneeled on the last two plays.

Harrison will be the No. 3 seed from the West and will travel to Wynne for a first-round playoff game. HARRISON 41, PEA RIDGE 7

Harrison bolted to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter and rolled to a victory over Pea Ridge during Saturday’s rescheduled 5A-West Conference game at Garrison Stadium.

Four different players had a touchdown for the Goblins ( 7- 3, 5- 2) as Jonathan Schaffer opened the scoring with a 2-yard run. Mason Ketterman added a 49-yard touchdown pass to Talon Stephens, then Lucas Dean and Braden Long scored on runs of 18 and 34 yards, respectively.

Long, who finished with 134 yards on 14 carries, made it 35-0 with a 10yard touchdown run, then Cayden Luker added a 1-yard touchdown run to make it 41-0 at halftime. Pea Ridge avoided a shutout on Malachi Bierman’s 2-yard touchdown run.
