A season of light

-

“Wishing you a holiday season filled with joy and light. May your life be showered in bliss and enfolded in unconditional love.”

~ Amy Leigh Mercreee

It’s the time of year for sharing, family, peace, love and lights. It’s the season to remind ourselves that we are blessed to have life’s treasures—even if they are often disguised. For some, the holidays can be a challenging chapter.

If you are dealing with the holiday blues, just know that you aren’t alone. According to www.healthline.com, almost 20% of Americans struggle with these “winter blues.” It could feel like simple activities are just a little more difficult to manage than normal during this season.

There are many ways that you can combat the “blues!” Here’s some suggestions:

Be open to new traditions – You may have an image of what you think the holiday should consist of, and these events may not be happening around you. Instead of holding on to what the holiday should be, allow new traditions to unfold. At Concordia, we focus on creating our activity calendar based on personal interest and our local community events. We stay connected to the roots of Bella Vista as we are a senior living tradition in Northwest Arkansas.

Learn to say “No” – Overscheduling and not making time for yourself can lead to mental strain and emotional stress. Learn how to say “no,” and stay firm on your decision—especially if it is not a reflection of your time and value. Say “Yes” to rest, singing, (safe) travel, hugs, gifts and laughs! At Concordia, we offer so many choices without the stress. Our team can reduce the anxiety of life where you don’t need to worry about the upkeep of your home, preparing meals, running errands and planning parties. We take care of it all so you can say “Yes” to all the wonderful things life is presenting you. Focus on the good and take care of your heart and mind. But remember: It’s still okay to say “No” when necessary, especially when fighting the “winter blues.”

Spend time with your loved ones – Instead of spending the holidays alone at home, get your friends or family together for a dinner celebration here at Concordia. Limited seating is available in the dining room each day, but you have the choice to invite your loved ones to your home. What a joyous affair! Let us help you spread the love and cheer of the season with your loved ones—all while enjoying our beautiful dining room, lovely decorations and gracious staff. Our team is here to serve you and ensure your family feels right at home.

The holiday season can be an especially difficult time for senior adults. If you’re unable to be with the people you love through this time, look for volunteer opportunities that allow you to be around others socially. At Concordia, we have a wonderful, attentive transport program that fully assists with personal errands, doctor appointments, and planned, exciting group outings.

The weather outside maybe frightful, but here at Concordia—it’s so delightful! Get a copy of our wonderful event calendar, bring a neighbor, and discover what makes our community unbelievably special. See you soon!
