ROGERS — Another season draws to a close.

-

The most joyous season of all began for our mom on December 31, 2023, as she passed from this earthly life to join our Lord Jesus Christ in heaven. Thelma L. Norton was born in Elton, La., to Heard and Ellen LeJeune, on July 10, 1935.

She was a long-time resident of Alexandria, La., and member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church.

Her loved ones will cherish her memory and smile, knowing she joins those loved ones who predeceased her: parents, Heard and Ellen LeJeune; brother, Larry LeJeune; and her husband, Clyde M. Norton.

She leaves behind four children: Judy Schliesman (husband, Greg), David Norton, Sr. (wife, Carol), Sharon Belto (husband, Ed), Laurie Sylvester (husband, Beau); nephew, Jeff LeJeune (wife, Jody); and niece, Michelle LeJeune Hebert (husband, Keno); 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and three more on the way.

Thelma held many titles during her life’s seasons: daughter, sister, cousin, friend, drum major, musician, LSU graduate, wife, teacher, mother, aunt, dancer, choir member, realtor, volunteer, mother-in-law, civic leader, lifelong LSU sports fan, tutor, host, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a role model during all these seasons. Thelma let Clyde tell most of the stories, and when she spoke, it was sage advice. She was a practical thinker (“It is what it is”). Unwavering support was freely given to all her children (“You can do anything you put your mind to”). Her encouragement and reminder of her love came in abundance (“I love you”).

She overcame more than a half dozen serious injuries/ illnesses during her life, facing each with a soft heart and strong mind while her body healed. She was also strong and confident, always taking things at her own pace, even if Clyde was honking the car horn in the driveway telling her to hurry so they wouldn’t be late!

In recent years, Thelma and Clyde moved to Rogers, Ark., living near Sharon. Thelma and Clyde could often be spotted zipping through the neighborhood on the golf cart, along with Doug, the dog. Thelma joined the Catholic community of St. Vincent de Paul Church, and enjoyed sharing her Special Gumbo with Fr. Rodolphe.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Thelma Norton at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024, at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, with Rev. Rusty Rabalais officiating, along with Rev. Dan O’Connor and Rev. Rickey Gremillion concelebrating. Entombment will follow at the Alexandria Memorial Garden Mausoleum, under the direction of John Kramer & Son Funeral Home. Thelma’s grandchildren will be honored to serve as pallbearers. Friends and family will gather to pray a rosary at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, Alexandria, La. Visitation to follow until time of the Mass.

Memorial donations, in honor of Thelma, may be directed to Outreach Ministries, Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church, 401 21st Street, Alexandria, La., 71301. To extend notes of condolence to the Norton Family, please visit: www.KramerFunerals.com.
