Cardinals resume practice

Farmington Coach Johnny Taylor said his team had its first practice of this week Wednesday, but the layoff wasn’t as long as some might think.

The Cardinals (20-2, 6-0) took advantage of last week’s game against Gentry being moved up a day with a couple of extra practices before inclement weather hit the area.

“We were able to get in some practices Friday and Saturday,” Taylor said. “Basically we had just three days off. Most of our guys — like Mason Simpson and others — they’re going to go to AAO if they can’t get into our gym. I was able to get out and work with Layne [Taylor] a couple of those days, so he really took only one day off.

“It was smart moving the Gentry game up one day. We’re only one game behind and we’ll try to make that up Monday. At this time of year, with the weather being unpredictable, you have to do what you can to get those games in and not get them backlogged and having to play three or four games a week.

Wednesday’s practice included a weight room session, and Taylor said he tries to get his players to lift weights four days each week since conference play began. The only difference was Farmington’s focus now goes on Prairie Grove, the Cardinals’ opponent tonight, and not on Huntsville, which is now scheduled for Monday after the game was postponed Tuesday.

“When we practice [Thursday], we’ll practice and rep Prairie Grove’s baseline and out-of-bounds plays, that type of stuff,” Taylor said. “We’ll watch clips from the last time we played them, and we’ll be ready to go.”
