SPRINGDALE — Glenn Edward Atkins

passed from this life on Saturday, February 24, 2024. He was born in Springdale, Ark., on April 30, 1963 to Ewell and LaJoice Baker Atkins.

Glenn attended Springdale Public Schools, and first attended the University of Arkansas on a band scholarshi­p, playing drums with the Hog Wild Band. He soon discovered his interest in business and received a BSBA in Finance in 1987, going on to become a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He later returned to the U of A Sam M. Walton Graduate School of Business to complete his MBA.

After an internship on Wall Street, he joined Monarch Capital Corporatio­n, a Fortune 500 insurance company, focusing on research and management of fixed income assets. Ready to return to northwest Arkansas to raise a family, he joined Llama Asset Management, the predecesso­r to Garrison Financial Corporatio­n in Fayettevil­le, as the director of research and fixed income portfolio manager. He was on the board of the Garrison Financial Institute at the Sam M. Walton School of Business since its inception. He recently announced his retirement from Garrison Financial (Garrison Asset Management) and joined the faculty of the University of Arkansas as a lecturing instructor in Finance. He was looking forward to teaching more classes and took great joy in helping students ensure their futures through education.

Glenn was a member of the CFA Society, the CFA Society of Arkansas, Beta Gamma Sigma, the Golden Key Internatio­nal Honors Society, Rotary Club Internatio­nal, and was a past member of the Board of Directors of Fayettevil­le Boys and Girls Club and of Big Brothers/ Big Sisters of Northwest Arkansas. He appeared as a guest lecturer at the Harvard Business School and co-authored a portion of a book on bankruptcy.

Every task Glenn took on, he gave it his all, whether it was in business and civic duty, raising his children or developing new hobbies. He loved his family fiercely and was a loyal and steadfast leader, not only to his children, but extended family as well. Everyone who knew him was touched by his caring heart and well thought out advice. He will be missed by so many loving friends and relatives.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, Ewell and LaJoice; his beloved aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Vic Leslie; and a stepson, Frederick Nicholas Buckle.

Glenn is survived by his wife, Carla Atkins, of the home; his twins, daughter Morgan Atkins of Springdale and son Grant Atkins of Bentonvill­e; his daughter, Corbin Woods and her husband Lane of Fayettevil­le; daughter, Ashley Leichner Kimbro and her husband Eric of Rogers; son Brenton (Bo) Muruaga of Springdale; grandchild­ren, Kenleigh Combs and her husband Lincoln, Zachary Riggins, Chloe Riggins, Connor Riggins, Jackson (Cade) Leichner, Harper Leichner, Journee Kimbro, Vivian Jo Combs, and Madeline Joy Woods.

Funeral services will be Friday, March 1, 2023, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Springdale. Graveside service will be at 9:30 a.m. at Prairie Grove Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-7 p.m. at Sisco Funeral Chapel of Springdale.

Pallbearer­s will be Grant Atkins, Brenton Muruaga, Lane Woods, Eric Kimbro, Alex Stilwell, Kevin Clark, and Chuck Taylor.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Single Parent Scholarshi­p Fund of Northwest Arkansas based in Bentonvill­e, the University of Arkansas Music Department or the First United Methodist Church in Springdale. An endowed scholarshi­p to the University of Arkansas Sam M. Walton School of Business is planned.
