Trump’s behaviors not very Christ-like
Many words have been used to describe Donny Trump — he of two impeachments, four indictments and 91 counts — by people who know him, experts who have studied him and rational people who have observed him honestly. I can add opinions of friends and family who have worked for him and the nicest word I’ve heard from any of them was “pig.” I took offense, of course, to the disrespect, to pigs. Pigs are intelligent and useful, not words which would qualify to describe Trump.
My concerns are with the dichotomy between the identity of his supporters and their supposed beliefs. For example, pro-lifers with their anti-abortion stance would vote for a man who tried to impose his own personal “options” to fathering out of wedlock. For details, seek out wife No. 2 Marla or daughter No. 2 Tiffany, if they haven’t signed Trump’s obligatory nondisclosure agreements. Or try to find his famous Howard Stern radio interview for a genuine eye-opener. The weasel behavior in that interview was eye-opening.
His Christian voters are a special problem. “Vengeance is Mine, sayeth the Lord” should ring a bell. A man consumed with vengeance cannot possibly be concentrating on the nation’s issues if getting revenge is constantly his principal motivation. Combine that with text-book perfect narcissism, an ignorance of the Constitution and a disrespect for the rule of law, and expect the perfect storm. And a president who requires personal loyalty to him alone cannot possibly surround himself with knowledgeable people in his administration who may occasionally offer him differing, but better, alternatives for problem solving.
Blind adoration of this man, sending him money and buying his tacky sneakers and baseball cards and other junk violates both the first and second commandments. Loving your enemies and forgiving trespasses are obligatory for calling yourself “Christian.” Support for Trump is the very antithesis of following your savior’s dictum.
Finally, if Trump continues to be Putin’s well-managed puppet, we are not only in for a world of hurt, but we allow for a commander-in-chief who has openly criticized our armed forces. To say, in front of a grieving father at his son’s grave, that our veterans are “losers” is utterly despicable and to not want disabled vets to be seen in a holiday parade just ups the ante.
This election is a moral choice. History will not only judge him; it will judge us.
