DeLamar, Ramaker show dominance

- RICK FIRES

Jaison DeLamar showed last week why he was an early recruiting target for University of Arkansas baseball coach Dave Van Horn.

DeLamar contributed in all aspects of the game for Fayetteville (15-2), which resumed 6A-West Conference play Monday with an 11-game winning streak.

DeLamar had a triple, double, and a single before going to the mound to record the final two outs in a 9-6 win at Bentonville last Wednesday. He had four hits, including a game-winning single, over the weekend in a 4-3 victory over Maumelle. He then finished with another RBI single when Fayetteville completed the sweep with a 8-1 victory over the Panthers.

For his effort, DeLamar is the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Boys Player of the Week. Cailey Ramaker of Farmington is the NWADG Girls Player of the Week.

DeLamar is an all-around athlete who contributed greatly at receiver for Fayetteville’s state championship football team that finished 13-0 last fall. DeLamar is also a swift center fielder and leading hitter who committed to Arkansas as a sophomore.

He was 11 of 13 at the plate last week for an .846 batting average that included six RBI, three doubles, and two triples. He also had a save.

“Jaison had a really good week at the plate,” Fayetteville Coach Scott Gallagher said. “He was able to jumpstart our offense. He did a great job of being under control and hitting balls hard.”

Ramaker did a little bit of everything for Farmington during the Blackhawk Relays at Pea Ridge last week. She won first place in five individual events to capture highpoint honors with 52.5 points. She also ran a leg on Farmington’s 4x100 relay team that took first place.

“Cailey Ramaker epitomizes dedication, leadership, and maturity on the track,” Farmington Coach Payton Covington said. “Her relentless work ethic sets her apart in terms of preparation. She is the leader of our track team and is an absolute joy to coach. Every week she does something else spectacular. I am excited to see where track takes her in the future.”

Ramaker’s performance enabled the Farmington girls to nip host Pea Ridge 134-131 for the team title. Providence Academy finished third with 70 points and Ozark Catholic was fourth with 63.5 points.
