Viewmont Elementary School students send video to alumni Eagles player
Maria Creger’s 2nd-grade dual language/immersion (DL/I) classroom at Viewmont Elementary School sends an encouraging message to Landon Dickerson, Philadelphia Eagles football player.
Landon is a former student in Mrs. Creger’s 1st-grade class at Viewmont Elementary School. She taught her class the Eagles fight song last week and got the video to him through a retired Viewmont Elementary School employee, Miya Teague, who is friends with his family.
Mrs.Creger remembers Landon as “smart, funny, outgoing, and definitely athletic.” A current student in her 2nd-grade class, Keegan O’Brien, when asked, who do you want to win the Super Bowl? replied, “Eagles!...I like the team and we have a Super Bowl party and eat food.” Do you have a favorite player? “Landon Dickerson (because) we learn about him in class and see him on TV.”
Philadelphia Eagles play the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 12.
Hickory Public School’s staff remembers Landon Dickerson in the classroom and on the field:
“I am just so very proud of Landon. I was Landon’s fifth grade teacher at Viewmont Elementary.
I remember that at “Meet the Teacher” Landon presented me with an origami rose that he made for me. I was honored to receive such a beautiful gift and was impressed by the attention to detail and the precision of each fold. In the classroom, Landon humbly exhibited those same characteristics; he proved to have an astounding work ethic and he excelled academically. I could always count on Landon to be a leader; he was courteous, thoughtful, and honest. Landon may be an Eagle now, but once a Viewmont Bear, always a Viewmont Bear!!” - Chelsea Hartness,
Viewmont Elementary “I had Landon in my Sports Medicine class. Landon was quick witted, intelligent and so athletic. I remember one day in class, he drops down into a split. Incredible for any athlete much less a 6’5” giant of a football player!” - Coach Brian Jillings, Hickory High School
“Landon was a student in my 6th grade math class at Grandview Middle School. I remember Landon walking up behind me and putting his hand on my shoulder. I had to look up at him and he says “your the best math teacher I’ve ever had.” - Robert Turner, Assistant Principal Hickory High School
“I coached Landon for 2 years in high school. He is by far the best player I’ve every coached. I knew he had the tools at an early age to reach the potential he’s I
now.” - Mike Helms, Grand
view Middle School
