Open for business: Newton Developmen­t Services Center to improve efficiency, spur growth

Citizens are invited to a ribbon cutting and grand opening on Nov. 1

The City of Newton is pleased to announce the opening of the Newton Developmen­t Services Center, a public facility designed to benefit homeowners, business owners, contractor­s, and developers as they plan and build projects that support this vibrant community. Everyone is invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and grand opening celebratio­n from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1, at the new center, which is located at 135 North College Ave.

The center brings together under one roof members of city staff whose work facilitate­s developmen­t, thus creating an efficient hub for economic growth initiative­s. City leaders anticipate the center will promote more seamless processes during permitting, plan review, and developmen­t, which will make projects of any size—from DIY home renovation­s to planned communitie­s with hundreds of new homes— easier for everyone.

“The Developmen­t Services Center is a testament to Newton’s dedication to growing our economy and providing our citizens with streamline­d access to the services they need,” Newton Mayor Eddie Haupt said. “We invite everyone to join us in celebratin­g this important milestone.”

Key points to note about the center include:

Office relocation­s: Economic developmen­t profession­als who worked in separate buildings and facilities will now work side-byside at the center. Offices relocated to the center include the Newton Planning and Zoning Department, Downtown Newton Developmen­t Associatio­n (DNDA), Project Management, and GIS Analysis.
