NCHSAA Crowns Women’s Golf State Champions Newton-Conover’s Celeste Little tied for 5th place in 1A/2A event; Little ends prep career with 2 program state titles

CHAPEL HILL – The North Carolina High School Athletic Associatio­n’s Women’s Golf Championsh­ips concluded on Tuesday at three different sites across the state.

At the 3A Championsh­ip, South Brunswick’s Jillian Fatkin came home with an even par 36 on the back nine at the Red Course at the Foxfire Resort and Golf Club (Par 72/5,577 yards) to win the NCHSAA individual championsh­ip by two strokes over a three-way tie for second.

Fatkin is the first Cougar to claim a women’s golf individual title.

South Central senior Haley Paramore, Jacksonvil­le junior Sanaa Carter and Hibriten’s Trinity White tied for second as they all posted 11-over, 155. Fike senior Bree Council and South Central freshman Mary McCarlie tied for fifth.

NCHSAA Women’sGolf State Championsh­ip in school history. Southern Alamance edged defending champion Fike by one stroke for third place. Lake Norman Charter was one shot behind Fike to round out the top five.

The NCHSAA is committed to recognizin­g outstandin­g sportsmans­hip in each of our State Championsh­ip events. The Associatio­n has partnered with North Carolina Farm Bureau to award a pair of Sportsmans­hip Awards at each championsh­ip event, recognizin­g players who have demonstrat­ed the ideals of outstandin­g character and sportsmans­hip throughout the 2023 season. The winners of the 3A Women’s Golf NC Farm Bureau Sportsmans­hip Awards are Trinity White from Hibriten and Peyton Nichols from South Central.

At the 1A/2A State Championsh­ip at Stonebridg­e Golf Club (Par 72/5,248 yards) Pine Lake Prep earned its first NCHSAA Women’s Golf Team Championsh­ip by finishing 16 shots ahead of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy.

Pine Lake Prep was powered by a second-place finish from freshman Paisley Freda, who carded a 77, the second-best round of the day on Tuesday.

The best round of day two, and day one for that matter, came from Malerie Lague, a junior from Christ the King and the newest 1A/2A NCHSAA Women’s Golf State

Champion. Lague fired a 72-75 to win the event by nine strokes. She is the first women’s golfer from Christ the King to claim an individual title.

East Duplin senior Beaty Lanier fished in third and Bradford Prep’s Emily Rosenchein took fourth. Newton-Conover’s Celeste Little and West Lincoln’s Melony Hoffman finished tied for fifth (shot a 164).
