Bunker Hill High School Welcomes Jake Kittrell as New Wrestling Coach

Bunker Hill High School is thrilled to announce the appointmen­t of Jake Kittrell as the new Wrestling Coach for the upcoming season. With a rich background in wrestling and coaching, Jake brings a wealth of experience and a passion for the sport to our esteemed program.

Jake Kittrell’s journey in wrestling began at East Rowan High School, where he competed under the mentorship of National Wrestling Hall of Fame Coach Barry Justus from 1999 to 2003. This formative period laid the foundation for Jake’s deep understand­ing of the sport and instilled in him the values of discipline, perseveran­ce, and sportsmans­hip.

Since 2009, Jake has been actively involved in coaching high school football and wrestling, demonstrat­ing his commitment to nurturing young athletes. His coaching career at Bunker Hill started on a promising note when he served as the Interim Head Coach during the fall of 2011 while completing his student teaching.

Notably, Jake has contribute­d to the success of the wrestling program at Patton, where he served as an Assistant Coach for a formidable 31-8 wrestling squad. His coaching prowess led him to the position of Head Coach at Patton for the past three seasons. Under his guidance, the team achieved remarkable milestones, including coaching multiple State Qualifiers and State Placers, with recent accolades such as a runner-up and 3rd place finisher.

Expressing his deep love for the sport, Jake emphasizes the valuable life lessons that wrestling imparts. He believes in instilling qualities such as physical and mental toughness, resilience, and the ability to navigate both success and failure. According to Jake, wrestling teaches athletes how to face challenges head-on, whether things are going well or not.
