The people of Kingston Residence of Hickory believe that recognizing and celebrating important milestones is part of living the good life.

In that spirit, the employees and residents of Kingston Residence of Hickory joined the friends and family of Susan Allshouse, Executive Director, on December 6, 2023 in celebration of her upcoming retirement.

“Susan has been with Kingston for many years. She leads by example and genuinely cares for the staff, our residents and their families. She has been a great mentor and leader – not only at Kingston but in the community as well. We were thrilled to be able to celebrate with our guest of honor,” said Kelly Burgess, Associate Executive Director. “Everyone loves Susan and it was wonderful to share this special event.”

Mayor Hank Guess presented a proclamation plaque declaring December 6, 2023 as Susan Elizabeth Allshouse Day in the City of Hickory on the occasion of her retirement, with best wishes and sincere congratulations.

Susan’s dedication to serving the community is exemplified by the many awards & certificates that line her bookshelves. The Hickory Rotary Club honored her with the Service Above Self Award for 2003-2004, and she was named Rotarian of the Year by the same club in 2004-2005. She was awarded the Stewart Ashton Heart of Rotary in 2005-2006. She was also named a Paul Harris Fellow. This is the highest form of recognition a Rotary Club can bestow. It is presented to a Rotarian or a member of the community who has made an outstanding contribution to the community. The Paul Harris recipient goes above and beyond in serving our community through promoting change and understanding.

“What a legacy, and what better example of leadership?” commented Burgess. “We will truly miss her and wish her well on her future endeavors. We will have a lot of fond memories from this celebration,” concluded Burgess.
