The South Atlantic Conference Announces WePlayed Sports Swimmers of the Week
ROCK HILL, S.C. (TheSAC.com) – The South Atlantic Conference announced its WePlayed Sports Swimmers of the Week for meets competed in during the ninth week of the 2023-24 season. Catawba swept the weekly honors, as Marit Reckmann was named the Women’s Swimmer of the Week while Maks Minichowski was named the Men’s Swimmer of the Week.
Reckmann, a sophomore from Nienhagen, Germany, helped 24th-ranked Catawba Women’s Swimming to its first win over No. 7 Wingate since 1999, also defeating UNC Pembroke and Mars Hill on the weekend. Reckmann won the 50 Freestyle (23.98), 100 Freestyle (52.09), 200 IM (2:11.13) and was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay on Friday. She then won the 50 Freestyle (24.95) and the 100 Butterfly (1:02.07) along with the 400 Medley Relay and the 400 Freestyle Relay on Saturday. Reckmann collected five individual wins in total to mark a stellar weekend.
Minichowski, a freshman from Lomianki Dolne,Poland, helped Catawba Men’s Swimming to its first win over Wingate in program history, along with a win at Mars Hill on Saturday. On Friday, he won the 100 Freestyle (44.71), 200 Freestyle (1:39.15), and 100 Butterfly (49.55) and was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay. Minichowski continued to collect gold on Saturday, touching first in the 100 Freestyle (45.80), 100 Breaststroke (57.09) and 100 Butterfly (51.28). Overall, he collected six individual wins and two NCAA B cuts on the weekend.
