Lenoir-Rhyne men’s swimming sweeps second tri-meet of the weekend

HICKORY, N.C. - In its second tri-meet of the weekend, the Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Swimming Team completed a 4-0 stretch with victories over Emory & Henry, 178-64, and Converse, 168-82.

The Bears started off the event in impressive fashion by finishing first and second in 400-yard individual medley relay; the “A” team edged out the “B” team by seven seconds with its time of 3:40.41.

That would not be the only successful relay event for the Bears as they also finished first place in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:20.19. Both of those first-place finishes were comprised of Matthew Stein, Renato Herran, Christophe­r Glebus, and Christophe­r Forsey.

Herran, a native of Plantation, Fla., also took two firstplace finishes in the butterfly events. First, in the 200-yard race, the sophomore recorded a time of 2:06.99 beating out Converse’s Kirill Lyzhin (2:10.89) and his teammate, Jacob Chapman (2:24.73), who slid into the top three. In the 100-yard event, Herran finished with a time of 53.13 which gave him his fourth winning time of the day.

Forsey, a native of Concord, N.C., also earned an individual victory with a time of 2:04.55 in the 200yard individual medley. The time was four seconds faster than the runner-up, Stein, who finished with a 2:08.40 performanc­e.

Stein, a native of Waxhaw, N.C., also finished with the second-best time in the 100-yard backstroke with a 56.52 posting. Jake Simpson, a native of Gastonia, N.C., placed right behind Stein with a third-place time of 57.30.

Glebus, a native of Greensboro, N.C., joined the list of LR swimmers that pulled out multiple individual victories. In the 200-yard freestyle, the sophomore dialed up a time of 1:47.63 which was nearly seven seconds faster than the runner-up and fellow teammate, Cordin Schrum, who finished with a 1:54.23 posting.

In the 500-yard freestyle, Glebus recorded a time of 4:58.49 to earn his fourth victory of the day. The time was nearly three seconds faster than his teammate, Brooks Higginboth­am, who finished second with a 5:01.75 posting.

Auburn, Ala., also recorded a second-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:21.18. That performanc­e was runner-up to Levi McRea who won the event with a 10:03.79 posting.

McRea, native of Hickory, N.C., was another LR swimmer to capture multiple individual victories. The sophomore won the 200yard backstroke with a time of 2:01.84.

In the breaststro­ke events, Davis Hull and Carson Cochrane earned top three finishes in the 100-yard and 200-yard races. Hull, a native of Charlotte, N.C., recorded a first-place time of 2:23.26 in the 200-yard breaststro­ke and a second-place time of 1:05.53 in the 100-yard breaststro­ke.

For Cochrane, the Keller, Texas native finished second in the 200-yard breaststro­ke with a time of 2:25.00. The freshman finished third in the 100-yard breaststro­ke with a 1:05.53 posting.

The Lenoir-Rhyne Men’s Swimming Team will wrap up its regular season on Saturday, Jan. 13, as the Bears host Chowan in a dual meet. The scheduled time of the competitio­n is still yet to be determined.
