-

Reservations are now being taken for the Hickory Landmarks Society’s annual historic preservation group tour. The public is invited to join HLS on Thursday, February 22 and Friday, February 23, 2024, to visit historic sites and museums in Raleigh, North Carolina.

The tour will depart Maple Grove (542 2nd St. NE) at 7:00 am, on the way to an entertaining and educational overnight trip to Raleigh. Among the sites to be toured are the Joel Lane Historic House Museum, built by a city founder in 1769 and the Mordecai House, built by the same gentleman in 1785 as a wedding present for his son. Raleigh’s first “skyscraper,” the 1874 Briggs Building, now houses the City of Raleigh Museum. Our trip will include the only African American house museum in North Carolina and end with a guided tour of the Executive Mansion.

The cost for the tour for HLS members is $260 per person for double room lodging and $300 per person for single room lodging, for non-HLS members $280 per person for a double room and $320 per person for a single room. Two breakfasts, one lunch, one dinner and all admissions are included. Reservations are now being accepted. The deadline for joining the tour is Wednesday, January 31. Please call the HLS office at 3224731 to sign up for this exciting journey into history! You may also mail your check, payable to HLS to PO Box 2341, Hickory, NC 28603 or register online with PayPal at www.hickorylandmarks. org.
