-

Ashure Ministry has recently been awarded funding through the Golden LEAF Foundation’s Food Distribution Assistance Program. At their December board meeting, the Golden LEAF Board of Directors awarded $5,540,432 in funding for 50 projects through the Food Distribution Assistance Program.

The awards made at the December meeting provided 50 nonprofits with funding for organizations in 37 counties. Ashure Ministry in Catawba County, formerly known as Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry, Inc., was awarded $82,500. These funds are appropriated for a truck, pallet stacker, racking system and an electric jack. “These items will have a significant impact making our food pantry more efficient with the expansion of serving all of Catawba County, said Kristal Manning, Executive Director. “We will be able to serve 163 additional households monthly with this funding.”

The N.C.General Assembly appropriated $10 million to Golden LEAF for the Food Distribution Assistance Program. This program is funded by federal State Fiscal Recovery Funds through the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. Funds may be used for grants to nonprofit organizations to assist organizations in becoming eligible to be partner agencies of a North Carolina food bank or enhancing or expanding the capacity of current partner agencies of North Carolina food banks. The Golden LEAF Board awarded the first round of funding in August 2023 and awarded remaining funds in February 2024.

“The Food Distribution Assistance Program is a unique opportunity to enhance and expand the capacity of nonprofits working with our North Carolina food banks to address food insecurity,” said Golden LEAF President, Chief Executive Officer Scott T. Hamilton. “Golden LEAF is proud to partner with the State of North Carolina to leverage this one-time federal funding for a lasting impact across the state.”
