- BY WILLIAM & MARY ATHLETICS NEWS

RICHMOND, Va. — The Coastal Athletic Association announced their women’s basketball postseason honors on Tuesday, March 12. William & Mary’s Nylah Young was selected to the All-CAA First Team, while freshman guard Cassidy Geddes earned a spot on the CAA All-Rookie Team.

The conference’s 14 head coaches voted on the honors, selecting five players to the first, second, third and defensive teams. Five other players were selected to the rookie team aside Geddes.

Young provided an instant impact for the Tribe after transferring from Hampton where she was a Third Team AllCAA selection a year ago.

She finished the regular season second in the league in scoring at 15.9 points per game, just a single total point behind CAA Player of the Year Gigi Gonzalez from Stony Brook.

A native of Suffolk, Va., Young kicked her offense into high gear once the calendar hit February, averaging 20.4 points per outing in the last nine games of the regular season. She finished the regular season with 22 games in double figures while breaking the 20-point barrier 10 times. She also has a team-best four doubledoubles.

Young has a chance to put her name in the program record books at season’s end, currently sitting at 91% from the charity stripe heading into postseason play and just 0.3% off the program record set by Sydney Wagner last year. The 91% clip is good for first in the CAA and seventh best in the nation. She also ranks third in the CAA in field goal percentage and second in free throws made.

Overall, it is the fourth conference honor of Young’s career.

After coming off the bench in the non-conference, Geddes

found her way into the starting lineup in CAA play and made the most of the opportunity.

The Hickory, N.C. native averaged 11.2 points per game in conference play, which was good for third best among CAA freshmen. Geddes also averaged 1.7 steals per game in the regular season, placing her with the seventh most swipes in the league.

She led the Tribe with a breakout performance in an overtime win against Delaware on Jan. 19, posting 20 points with seven rebounds and five assists, highlighting a freshman campaign that saw her score in double figures 11 times. She has eclipsed 20 points three times this year.

Geddes finished her first regular season averaging 9.6 points per game and 2.0 assists, good for second most on the team. Her 28.1 minutes per game also were the second most for W&M.

Stony Brook’s Ashley Langford was picked as the CAA Coach of the Year to go along with Gonzalez’s Player of the Year selection. Charleston’s Taryn Barbow was named Rookie of the Year with Towson’s Kylie Kornegay-Lucas the Defensive Player of the Year. Jania Hall of Monmouth was selected as the Sixth Player of the Year.
