Recap: Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute split a doublehead­er with nationally ranked and defending Region 10 Division-Three champions Camp Community College on Sunday, falling in game one 11-3 before winning a pitcher’s duel in game two, 1-0.

In game one, Caldwell had an early advantage, scoring two runs in the first inning off of a Camp error. Drew Park had an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning and Caldwell led 3-0. Camp would answer with an eight run fourth inning to take control of the game. The Hurricanes would then add two runs in the sixth inning and another run in the eighth for the final 11-3 advantage.

In game two, Caldwell starting pitcher Avery Strange got the complete game victory as the Cobras won 1-0. Strange struck out five and allowed only four hits while walking no batters in the seveninnin­g affair. Caldwell took the lead in the third inning on an RBI single by Isaiah Kirby,

The doublehead­er was held at Big League Camp in Marion due to wet field conditions at Walker Stadium in Lenoir. Saturday’s single game was cancelled due to the weather. Heading into the weekend match-up, Camp was ranked tenth in the latest NJCAA Division-Three poll while Caldwell checked in at 14th. Caldwell’s record is now 12-11 (7-2 Region 10 D-3) while Camp is 16-13 (7-3 Region 10 D-3).
