Kuznetsova’s best year-end ranking in seven years came in 2016 when she added two career titles to her total of 17 and rose from No. 25 in 2015 to No. 9 at the end of last season. She enters 2017 with renewed confidence after securing wins in both Sydney and Moscow to begin and end 2016. She advanced to the finals in Miami last year, where she fell to Victoria Azarenka. Kuznetsova’s fourth round appearances in the French and Wimbledon were some of her best Grand Slam results since 2014, when she reached the quarterfinals at Roland Garros. She saw her third Olympics as a member of the Russian team and won two rounds in Brazil before dropping in the round of 16 in three sets.
