As a 2016 finalist in Miami, Nishikori enters the 2017 season ranked No. 5 and searching for his first title on Key Biscayne. He added one title to his total of 11 last year with his fourth straight win in Memphis. Despite hip and rib injuries, Nishikori ended the year at No. 5, reaching finals in Basel, the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Canada, Barcelona, and Miami. He represented Japan in the Summer Olympics and brought home Bronze with a decisive win over Rafael Nadal to claim the medal. Nishikori secured his 300th career win last year, reaching the semifinals of the US Open and the quarterfinals in Australia.
