Thiem continues his climb up the ATP tour rankings. He has improved his ranking for six straight seasons and ended 2016 at No. 8, the youngest player in the top 10 since 2003. Four of his seven career titles came last year with wins in Stuttgart, Nice, Acapulco, and Buenos Aires. His year of firsts continued with an all-time high of 58 wins in 2016 and reaching his first ever quarterfinal and semifinal of a grand slam at Roland Garros. Thiem’s top win of his career by ranking came against Roger Federer at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Rome. He also secured his first three Davis Cup victories in 2016 for Austria. Thiem’s run in Miami ended last year in the fourth round to the eventual champion, Novak Djokovic, but he seeks the spotlight in 2017 for his first ATP Masters 1000 crown and to continue his rise on the tour.
