Photography shines in these club pubs

- BY GERALD PERSCHBACHER

Car club editors often have a fine eye for great photos. Four clubs recently exemplified the “art” of photo selection. Readers of The Marmon News had the view of sitting in the seat of a 1931 Sixteen showing front console and a look ahead (The Marmon Club, editor George Bradley, 278 West Shore Road, Cuba, N.Y., 14727; marmonmembership@gmail. com). The car recently was owned by Greg Dawson. The picture gave an outstanding “you are there” glance that often is missed in car magazines.

Rick Cagna’s story about wife Sue’s stunning 1937 Dodge Brothers half-ton pickup shows the completed project that began with four truckloads of parts. The picture is taken outdoors with marvelous sunlight and a controlled grassy backdrop at a meet ( Dodge Brother Club News, Tracy Lesher, editor, 475 West Route 897, Reinholds, Pa., 75690). The grunt work to finish the project is shown, too.

Editor Jim Black ( Overhead Cammer, Pontiac-Oakland Club, 307 Summerset Drive, Papillion, Neb., 68133) submitted a black-and-white printing of his club’s publication displaying a vintage setting for member Bob Kunigonis’ 1967 Tempest at a period gas station with vintage pumps. Very nice.

In step with that setting is GLR News (VMCCA Great Lakes Chapter, editor Steve Blakey, 6601 Oak Mill Place, Fort Wayne, Ind., 46835; bbdesign@mindspring.com). The cover shows two club vehicles nestled at a prewar gas station (John Tarleton’s 1920 Essex and Jack and Barb Stover’s 1930 Ford Model A).

Wonderful photos add a special finished touch to articles.
