Evelyn M. Mongesku, 96, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 17. She passed peacefully in Hospice of the Comforter in Altamonte Springs, Florida. She was born to Frank and Mary (Szalanczy) Kassay in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on June 6th, 1922. She is predecease­d by her loving husband William Mongesku, their youngest son Timothy, and her brother William Kassay. She is survived by her sons: Dennis (Lynne), William (Penny), Christophe­r (Julia), her daughter Victoria (Michael), daughter-in-law Janice, and sisterin-law Lillian Renc. There are 12 grandchild­ren and numerous great grandchild­ren, nieces and nephews. Evelyn grew up in Queens, New York, where she met her husband. Married in 1949, they resided in several different locations around the state. In 1966 the family moved to Chesapeake, Virginia. In her younger years she enjoyed dancing, couple’s bridge, bowling, and volunteeri­ng with the local Lions Club giving eye exams to children. Evelyn retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard Planning Department in 1984. She moved to Altamonte Springs in 2001 to live with her daughter’s family. She was an active member of St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Parish, the St. Mary Magdalen Council of Catholic Women’s St. Gerard Circle, as well as an avid bridge player and member of the Crafting Group at the Maitland Senior Center. Funeral details are being handled by DeGusipe Funeral Home, 9001 N. Orlando Avenue, Maitland, FL. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 29th, at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church, 861 Maitland Avenue, Altamonte Springs, Florida, 10:00 -11:00 a.m. A Funeral Mass to celebrate her life, presided by Fr. Michael Burke will immediatel­y follow at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be on Thursday, November 1 at Meadowbroo­k Memorial Gardens in Suffolk, Virginia. Memorial donations may be made to The Lions Club, or St. Jude’s Children Hospital.
