State reports 12,119 cases, 205 deaths

Florida’s resident death toll from coronaviru­s rose to 24,004 with the addition of 205 more reported fatalities on Saturday while also adding 12,119 more positive COVID-19 cases to bring the total to 1,560,186.

With 376 non-Florida resident deaths, including six new deaths reported Saturday, the state’s combined total stands at 24,380.

Each report includes deaths from several previous days, as it can take weeks and sometimes several months for reports to appear.

Florida has seen about one in 895 of its residents die from the virus, while nationally it’s closer to one in 835 people, and worldwide, it’s at about one in 3,870 of the planet’s 7.8 billion population.

Across the state, 7,366 people were hospitaliz­ed with COVID-19 as of about 2:30 p.m. Saturday including 385 in Orange County, 229 in Osceola, 162 in Lake and 127 in Seminole. The state’s online tool updates several times throughout the day.

To date, 68,780 people have been hospitaliz­ed in Florida, according to the state’s report, which includes 336 newly reported hospitaliz­ations since Friday’s update.

Based on vaccine counts released Saturday, statewide 769,765 people have received the first dose of the coronaviru­s vaccine, and 79,552 people have received the second dose. Of those who have received at least the first dose, more than 496,000 are over the age of 65.

Meanwhile, testing has ramped up. To date, 9,545,536 people have been tested in

Florida, 48,367 more than Friday’s total.

Central Florida added 2,545 cases on Saturday for a total of 268,399: That includes 813 more in Orange for 92,439; 469 more in Polk for 45,224; 237 in Osceola for 30,293; 226 in Volusia for 27,250; 246 in Brevard for 25,831; 210 in Seminole for 21,791; 246 in Lake for 19,208; and 98 in Sumter for 6,363.

There were 77 new deaths across all eight Central Florida counties bringing the region’s toll to 3,963. Polk County has the most coronaviru­s fatalities in the region with 887, followed by 828 in Orange, 578 in Brevard, 472 in Volusia, 377 in Lake, 335 in Seminole, 330 in Osceola and 156 in Sumter.

Central Florida accounts for over 17.2% of the cases statewide and over 16.5% of the deaths.
