26 more COVID-19 resident deaths

Florida added 5,883 positive COVID-19 cases to bring the total to 2,039,062. With 26 more fatalities, the number of resident deaths now totals 33,142.

With 641 non-Florida resident deaths, including 1 new reported Saturday, the state’s combined total stands at 33,783. Each report includes deaths from several previous days, as it can take weeks and sometimes several months for reports to appear.

Deaths continue to trend downwards, but cases are rising slightly among younger age groups. There was an increase of positive reported cases among ages under 65, about 9%, in the seven days ending Friday, compared to the seven days before that. At the same time, seniors 65 and older saw a decrease of 7%.

Hospitalizations appear to have flattened statewide as well as in metro Orlando. Across the state, 2,831 people were hospitalized with COVID-19 of 2 p.m. Saturday including 149 in Orange County, 66 in Osceola, 32 in Lake and 51 in Seminole. Comparatively, 2,853 people were hospitalized last Saturday.

To date, 85,971 people have been hospitalized in Florida, according to the state’s report, which includes 162 newly reported hospitalizations since Friday’s update.

Statewide, 5,604,283 people have received at least one vaccination shot including 3,075,333 who have completed their shot regimen, whether it’s the two-dose Pfizer or Moderna option or the one-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The count is a snapshot through Friday, based on the report released Saturday.

Of those who have received at least the first dose, 3,300,133 are over the age of 65.

To date, 11,795,602 people have been tested in Florida, 27,288 more than Friday’s total.

Statewide, the latest positivity rate reported Saturday for Friday’s test results by the Florida Department of Health was 6.27%, but that’s for new cases only and excludes anyone who previously tested positive. For all tested, the positivity rate is 7.80%.

Central Florida added 1,199 cases on Saturday for a total of 361,566.
