Landry’s offers $250 bonus for new hires

- By Austin Fuller

Landry’s is attempting to hire nearly 800 employees for its Orlando area restaurants and is offering a $250 bonus for workers hired at an upcoming job fair.

The job fair will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 13 at Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, 9150 International Drive, Orlando. Employees hired at the event will receive a $100 bonus after 30 days and $150 after 90 days.

The offer from the Houston-based company comes as restaurants across the country and in Central Florida struggle to fill jobs.

“As our Landry’s restaurants reopen and allow more capacity across the country, we have noticed the work force is smaller due to the stimulus checks, unemployment and candidates relocating to suburban areas due to financial downfall,” Keith Beitler, Landry’s executive vice president and COO, said in an email.

“Many service industries are offering top dollar for new employees to incentivize people to come back to work. In addition to competitive pay, Landry’s is offering sign-on bonuses as a positive incentive for new hires.”

Starting pay for hourly staffers ranges from the tipped minimum wage, $5.63 per hour in Florida, to $22 per hour. The national average for non-tipped Landry’s employees is $14.15 per hour. Salaried management positions pay higher, according to Beitler.

Orlando-based Darden Restaurants announced amid the tight labor market it would ensure none of its workers make less than $10 per hour, a figure which includes income from tips. That number is expected to go up to $11 in January 2022 and $12 in January 2023. Hourly employees at Darden earn $17 per hour on average.

Landry’s is hiring for servers, bartenders, hosts, bussers, cooks, and dishwashers across these restaurants: Joe’s Crab Shack, Saltgrass Steak House, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., The Oceanaire Seafood Room, Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steak House, The Palm, Morton’s The Steakhouse and Landry’s Seafood House.
