Lake Highland, OCP score wins

Ohio State signee Brice Sensabaugh scored 39 points for the second time this season to lead Lake Highland Prep to a 67-61 victory against Windermere High in a duel of boys basketball unbeatens in Saturday’s Breast Cancer Awareness Classic at Oak Ridge High School.

Jared Berry added 12 points for the Highlander­s (4-0) as both he and Sensabaugh surpassed 1,000 points for their careers.

Lake Highland Prep, No. 2 in this week’s Super 16, is now the highest-ranked unbeaten area team.

Windermere (3-1), No. 7 in the Super 16, was led by junior prospect Sean Stewart, who scored 26 points.

Duke University assistant Jon Scheyer, who will replace Mike Krzyzewski as Blue Devils head coach next season, attended the game.

Host Oak Ridge (3-0), No. 5 in the Super 16, played No. 11 Evans (2-1) in Saturday’s late game.

OCP bounces back: Top-ranked Orlando Christian Prep suffered a stinging loss to Olympia in Wednesday’s opening night of the Rotary Tip-Off Classic but the Warriors have bounced back.

OCP, which was No. 1 in the first Sentinel Super 16 rankings of the season, used its big advantage in length and experience to roll to a 64-34 win against Edgewater in Saturday’s consolatio­n-bracket final. All 11 Warriors played and 10 scored as OCP improved to 3-1.

OCP’s next games will be played next Friday and Saturday against high-level competitio­n at The Bash showcase in Columbia, South Carolina.

No. 4 Olympia and No. 6 Central Florida Christian Academy, both 3-0, played in the late championsh­ip game.

The third-place game between (1-3) Boone and tourney host Winter Park (2-1) was not played. Tournament director Bob Harvey said Boone asked to withdraw after former Braves player Antony Silva died while playing a pickup game with former teammates and current players on Saturday morning.

Seniors A.J. Brown and Ven-Allen Lubin led OCP’s scoring with 13 and 9 points, respective­ly.

Edgewater (2-3) was without its top returning player, junior Jaylen Smith, who suffered an eye-poke injury in a loss to CFCA on Thursday. Montverde rebounds: National No. 1 Montverde Academy suffered its second homecourt loss in 11 seasons dating to Jan. 28, 2011, when second-ranked IMG Academy beat the Eagles 65-64 on Thursday night as part of the National Interschol­astic Basketball Conference weekend series.

Montverde (3-1) rebounded on Saturday, scoring a 53-44 win against Sunrise Christian (5-1) of Kansas in the final game of three-day event. Dariq Whitehead had 16 points and seven rebounds.

Hagerty’s Nze hits 2,000: Hagerty senior Jah Nze surpassed the 2,000-point mark and set a school career scoring record after posting 37 points to lead the No. 16 Huskies (3-0) to a 57-50 win against Lake Howell (2-3) on Friday night. The 6-4 guard added 13 rebounds.

Nze has 2,016 points as a fouryear starter, surpassing Brett Williams (1,992) as Hagerty’s all-time leading scorer. Hs is averaging 33.7 points per game with 33 and 31 in his previous two outings.

Windermere Prep piles points: No. 8 Windermere Prep ran its record to 5-0 with an 81-58 win vs. Bolles (2-3) in Jacksonvil­le. Eduardo Placer scored 21 points and ZZ Clark had 19 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the Lakers. Windermere Prep is averaging 81.4 points per game.
