Twins:
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said an MRI on star Byron Buxton’s right knee didn’t reveal any structural issues. Speaking before Saturday’s game with the Red Sox, Baldelli said that a team doctor would examine Buxton but that for now they anticipate he’ll be traveling with the team for the next series at Kansas City which begins Tuesday. Baldelli said the Twins aren’t anticipating making a roster move, a sign Buxton may be able to return in short order. Buxton left in the first inning of the Twins’ series-opening 8-4 win over the Red Sox on Friday night after sliding roughly into second base. His left leg appeared to get caught underneath him while his right foot slammed into the bag.
Tigers: Tigers placed star shortstop Javier Báez on the 10-day injured list Saturday with right thumb soreness before a game at Kansas City. The move is retroactive to Wednesday. Báez has missed four games with the thumb issue despite negative X-rays. He’s eligible to rejoin the team for a series against the Rockies next weekend. Báez signed a $140 million, six-year deal with the Tigers in the offseason. He’s hitting .316 with one homer and four RBIs in five games.
Diamondbacks: Sergio Alcantara snapped a scoreless tie with a two-run homer in the seventh inning, Ketel Marte added an RBI double and the Diamondbacks beat the Mets 3-2 Saturday. The Diamondbacks ended an 11-game skid at Citi Field with its first victory in Queens since Aug. 24, 2017. The Mets won that series finale the next day and swept three-game sets in 2018, 2019 and 2021 before winning Friday’s opener. “I said I felt like we haven’t won a baseball game here in a long time,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said, recalling a postgame conversation with a team staffer. “I was proud of our guys. We played hard. It’s a tough environment for a young team.”
Mariners: Mariners placed outfielder Mitch Haniger on the COVID19 injured list after he reported symptoms and tested positive on Saturday. The Mariners manager Scott Servais said Haniger took an at-home test that was positive and followed up with a subsequent test at the ballpark that confirmed the original. “We’ll continue to test him and hopefully get him back as soon as we can,” Servais said.
Athletics: Cristian Pache hit a go-ahead home run in the ninth inning, Sean Murphy also connected and the Athletics beat the Blue Jays 7-5 on Saturday, snapping a six-game losing streak against the Blue Jays. Facing Julian Merryweather (0-2), Pache hammered a 1-0 pitch into the right field bullpen for his first home run of the season and second of his career.
Astros: The Astros placed All-Star closer Ryan Pressly on the 10-day injured list Saturday due to inflammation in his right knee.
Royals: Hunter Dozier homered to break a tie in the sixth, and lead the Royals to a 3-1 win over the Tigers on Saturday. After Carlos Santana walked with one out, Dozier lifted an 0-2 pitch from Will Vest (0-1) into the left field bleachers for his first home run of the year.
Braves: Ian Anderson pitched one-run ball into the sixth inning, Matt Olson hit one of the Braves’ three homers and the Braves beat the Padres 5-2 Saturday. Anderson (1-1) allowed two hits and struck out seven over 5 innings.
