Sanford Seminole scored a dramatic overtime victory over Cocoa in a matchup of high school football powers on Friday night.

Next up for the ’Noles is a trip to DeLand, which got 6 touchdowns from Javon Ross in a game that produced 100 points.

Also Friday, prolific ninth-grade Tohopekaliga quarterback Sabby Meassick threw 7 more touchdown passes and Lake Highland Prep’s Romelo Ware ran wild.

Seminole (5-1), ranked No. 2 in the state Class 4M (Metro) rankings, let a 15-point lead disappear but pulled out a 35-29 homefield win against the top-ranked team in Class 2S (Suburban).

After Cocoa scored in the final seconds to tie the game and force overtime, Seminole won the coin toss and elected to play defense first. The Tigers, now 2-3 against a brutal schedule, netted only 1 yard on three pass plays from the Seminole 10-yard line and missed a field goal try on fourth down.

That opened the door for the ’Noles and it took only one snap. Running back Rory Thomas ran off right tackle and went 10 yards to the end zone for the victory.

FSU commit Darren “Goldie” Lawrence had 2 TD receptions and a TD pass for Seminole.

“The guys responded, but we’ve got to get better at playing in the second half,” ’Noles coach Eric Lodge said, “Two weeks in a row we got shut out in the second half. That’s just not winning football.” 100-point game: DeLand’s Ross, a junior who rarely leaves the field, totaled 6 touchdowns as the host Bulldogs (3-2) dealt Deltona (5-1) its first loss, 58-42.

Ross also scored 3 two-point conversions.

Deltona’s Jude Santana scored on 57- and 33-yard TD receptions and on an 82-yard kickoff return.

Hagerty history: No. 13 Hagerty won 24-3 at Harmony to get to 5-0 for the first time in program history.

Huskies quarterback Anthony Benzija threw a 50-yard touchdown pass to Ian Miller and his teammates dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage against the Longhorns (3-2).

Hagerty kicker Erwin Eberhardt madefieldgoalsof22,23and25yards.

Hagerty has allowed no more than 7 points in a game this season and held Harmony standout Tyler Emans to 59 yards on 18 carries.

“I thought our defense played lights-out tonight just as they have all year,” Hagerty coach Steve Mikles said.

Show-stopper: Ware scored on a 59-yard run on the first play from scrimmage and added 2 more TDs runs for Lake Highland (5-0) in its 31-12 win vs. Windermere Prep (4-2).

He gained 260 yards on 23 carries.

“We needed to be challenged,” Highlanders coach Ben Bullock said. “They gave us fits. It was good for our guys to get pushed tonight.”

The Highlanders came in averaging 47.5 points per game.

TD tosses: Julian Mascoe caught 3 of Meassick’s 7 TD tosses, including a 65-yard play that opened the scoring for Tohopekaliga (5-0) in a 53-14 home win against winless Wesley Chapel (0-6).

Meassick has 31 TD passes at the midpoint of his first full varsity season. He was a reserve player as an eighth-grader at Foundation Academy.

Tohopekaliga, averaging nearly 50 points, will host Bishop Moore (3-3) in a Monday night game. The Hornets were 50-7 winners against visiting Braden River (3-2).

Elsewhere: No. 11 Lake Mary (4-1) won 36-16 against North Miami Beach (2-4), which made the trip to Central Florida after previous road losses to Niceville of the Panhandle and Lowndes County of Georgia.

Mount Dora (4-2) notched its second win of the week, 42-0, over Pine Ridge (0-6).

Central Florida Christian Academy improved to 4-0 with a 42-7 home win against Vero Beach St. Edward’s.

More on Monday: Additional football is in store with 13 Mondaynight makeup games as a result of Hurricane Ian. That list is highlighted by two games matching Super 16 teams against each other: No. 1 Edgewater (6-0) at No. 10 Wekiva (3-3), and No. 4 Kissimmee Osceola (2-2) at No. 3 Jones (3-2).
