Following a Wednesday night beatdown of SMU to open AAC play, UCF coach Gus Malzahn received good news to open his weekend.

Mosley High School (Lynn Haven) tight end Randy Pittman announced his oral commitment to the Knights on social media Saturday morning, becoming the 11th prospect in UCF’s 2023 recruiting class.

Pittman was previously pledged to Florida State but reopened his recruitment on June 24 after an official visit to UCF the previous weekend.

The 6-foot-2, 230-pound prospect ranks as the No. 28 tight end in the country and the No. 99 overall recruit in the state, according to the 247Sports Composite ratings which combine prospect rankings listed by major recruiting services.

Through six games this season, the senior who turned 18 on Saturday, has caught team highs of 22 passes, 373 yards and 4 touchdowns, according to MaxPreps.

He’s also carried the ball 21 times for 47 yards and leads the team with 5 scores on the ground.

Although UCF is recruiting Pittman as a tight end, he’s a two-way player who sees the field along the defensive edge. Pittman has recorded 40 total tackles to go with 4 tackles for loss and a forced fumble.

Pittman is the only tight end in UCF’s ‘23 class.

Previously the Knights held a verbal commitment from East Forsyth (N.C.) tight end Jayvontay Conner but he backed off his non-binding pledge to the Knights in June.

Recruiting Florida is a major focus for the Knights under Malzahn. Pittman becomes the eighth member of the 11-man class from the Sunshine State.

All verbal commitments are non-binding until December when the early signing period opens and they can become official.

Pittman first committed to the Seminoles in April 2021.
